I am planning on applying for the AGR program when I am qualified to do so. I understand most of the positions available for enlisted Soldiers, but I cannot find much on what officers do on AGR status.

Positions vary, however there are positions available at all levels of command. Branch and rank are the big determinants in a lot of instances. I believe there's a USAR AGR board a few times a year. In my current position, I'm an AGR commander. Prior to this assignment I was an APMS. Most assignments are battalion level or higher.

AGR program was designed for support to the Reserve or Guard unit. Administration, Supply and Operations/Plans are the usual suspects. Depending on your Branch there are other positions (i.e. Company XO, Assistant S3 or assorted staff positions). Some do not require positions to be filled below Captain unless enlisted. Most positions are filled at Battalion or Brigade. Company Command or even Battalion Command require a “bill payer” to fill the position. That’s giving up a MTOE position to be filled on a TDA.

In my BN we have AGR officers assigned to the S3 and S1. Also some units have AGR commanders or even AGR platoon leaders which to me is just weird.

AGR Platoon Leaders are just dumb positions, they always end up being the de facto XO. As an AGR Officer you make the plans and ensure they are carried out it's a fine line between doing everything and empowering the TPU Soldiers.

I have had AGR commanders in my old unit, I know at the higher commands there are a lot of AGR officers positions. I was UA at the 11th aviation command for a while and we had to AGR Full bird Col. on staff.
