What is your opinion of Biden taking classified documents after he left the Vice-Presidency?

As of 1/10/23, we don’t have the complete story on the nature and classification of the documents, nor do we know the number of documents. Apparently, they were discovered in November and turned over immediately. How much difference does that make between the actions of him and Trump? Legally, the statute of limitations has passed, so what repercussions could Biden face, if any?

My opinion is that after revelations of the current President mishandling classified information as well as the previous one along with a Secretary of State who conducted government business on a private email server, a former government official being prosecuted (Sandy Berger) for stealing classified material from the National Archives, that we have a HUGE problem with very senior government officials playing fast and loose with our National Security in pursuit of protecting their own political backsides. We need to hold them equally as accountable as the Navy E-5 who went to the Brig for taking a photo in a restricted area. It doesn't matter "how many", a single document mishandled is sufficient to establish an offense was committed. They also need to ensure that everyone is properly trained and held accountable to the rules of proper handling of classified information.

After a person that has been charged and convicted in court, then I called him guilty. Before that I called him under suspicion. In both cases, Trump and Biden. It looks like there are legitimate questions to ask. Therefore there should be legitimate investigations. I am very much in favor of the special prosecutor for these gentlemen and I hope is that there will be a fair and honest investigation in both cases. It saddens me that so many people prejudge. Phrases like 50 years of crimes do not belong in a discussion about whether or not this particular person did this particular thing and should be punished for it. Trump and his group just got reprimanded and fined for filing frivolous lawsuits. That does not mean that every lawsuit Trump filed was frivolous, it means that some of them were. Bidens children and extended family may or may not have done things that are criminal, but taking advantage of the family name is not a crime. The same can be said of Trump and his family and his family name. There are many a movie star that kids use the name to get a chance, some made it, some did not, but using the name itself is not a crime. In my opinion finding classified documents after so many years raises a lot of red flags, but that does not prove a crime. It provides justification for investigation.

I'm overwhelmed with thanksgiving that I live in Texas. In so many ways, the crap Washington says and does has very little impact on us. Except for his border policies, and economic policies (such as putting us further in debt to send money overseas) I know he doesn't give a rat's tail about how we live or die. So, I won't care about his dictatorship.

I like your “both sides suck” argument (my interpretation). I absolutely agree there should be legitimate investigations, rather than white washing for the side in power and a vigilante probe for the side not in power. After it came out that Pence also had classified documents, I think that all former Presidents and VPs should search their own papers for anything classified. Some people suggested checking out class documents like a library book; it sounds like a good idea.

SFC Kathy Pepper - Two things about you reply. First, I do not like the argument that some use, everybody does it, so why are you picking on me? You can’t use that argument when you rob a bank and you can’t use that argument for improper conduct the rises to the level of criminal activity. The idea of checking out documents is really great but the reality is that just doesn’t happen. As a senior NCO, I often check out documents and turn them over to my commander who did not sign for them. He expected me to come back at the end of the day, gather them up and make sure everything was locked up.. that’s exactly what we did. At the level of the joy, Chiefs of staff for the White House I assume there’s a lot more say we call it finesse or flexibility. Unfortunately, it’s not a case that you see in the movies with a sign a paper for chain of evidence in please cases. I work with people that had so much classified junk on their table. At the end of the day they would move the entire desk into a vault, and just lock it up because it was too difficult. The sort is classified from the unclassified.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I think, "everybody does it, so why are you picking on me?", because that is NOT what I believe. I specifically indicated that that all former POTUS and VPs should search for classified docs; I do realize I should have said all politicians. I never said that checking out class docs would happen, only that it sounds like a good idea ... so, of course, it will never happen.

Why is it classified? Cause i don't need to know... it's not going to help me or my daily tasks.... now that Biden has been down to be reckless, that's a whole nother story

Who said he took them? As far as I know, there's an investigation going on to find out how they got there.
From me, it sounds like the right procedures were followed. Someone found unsecured classified. They reported it. It was turned over. The proper authorities are investigating. But I saw nothing that said Biden had control of them or took them. If he did, then whatever statutes apply he should be punished under.
This is in no way the same as Trump stealing classified information, storing it in his home, probably selling some of it and then trying to say he declassified it because he "thought" it. They are two different security incidents.

I like your conjecture and speculation. President Biden has the Hillary Clinton Teflon treatment. The good thing is that now that Republicans have the majority in the house, they can subpoena documents from the federal government and find out if those 150 transactions that he's been stolen Walling on that he doesn't want us to see our related to the co-mingled finances of Hunter and president biden. It couldn't happen to nicer guys just like with today's screwed up economy to the last 2 years and he screwed up presidency, it's all self-inflicted.
Other Federal Reserve people who are speaking on the Fox Business News who used to work for the federal government said it's rare to have more than 5 or 10 Flags by the Federal Reserve but hunter Biden has 150 of them!
And you wonder why the Biden Administration changed the rules after he took office because before he took office, anybody in congress could request them but now it requires a Democrat or did require a Democrat because the Democrats were in the majority in the house. So things are going to move quickly. It's only a matter of time..

I also won't put a Fox News Source because you won't believe it even though Fox News swept ratings in 2022 according to Forbes Magazine.

LTC (Join to see) - No he doesn't and Hillary didn't technically break any laws with her emails. That's why Trump signed that law he did after all the investigations they did found she broke now law. She broke State Dept policy - and they found that the State Dept (like every agency) has a shitty security program.
I don't really care about Hunter Biden since he's not in a government position, not an elected official and doesn't work in the WH so I'm not commenting on or reading that shit.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff like it or not, they're going to investigate because of Tony bobalinski saying that Hunter Biden and his dad shared money even paid each other's expenses and his dad got 10% of whatever he earned. So like it or not, the laptop and Tony bobalinsky's interview with emails and voicemails all are very incriminating. Also we have multiple locations where classified emails were found so I was listening today to Fox Business News and a former Assistant Attorney General under Trump I can't remember his name says that the Attorney General Garland is a very in a very tough position. Even though they are appointing Trump appointed judges to investigate, Garland is under a lot of pressure, as the former Assistant Attorney General mentioned by his own experience, to be even handed and to be neutral so attorney general Garland looks the other way to those protesting Republican or conservative Supreme Court justices in front of their house and nothing happens so this is going to be very interesting and there's nothing you could say to defend this because the investigation is ongoing.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff the former Assistant Attorney General that I can't recall who worked under Trump said that attorney general Garland's probably going to fail in his duty because he's already failed so far. But Jim Jordan and others are going to continue the investigation into the commingling of expenses and that's why you have the Federal Reserve stalling on the investigation pulling up the $150 questionable transactions that the Democrats won't release but now that the house has subpoena power, I believe it's only a matter of time. To me, it's kind of like the Watergate tapes that once the Watergate tapes came out, it was only a matter of time before President Nixon had to resign because he knew he was going to be impeached. That's my opinion, you can insult me all you want but I really believe that Vice President Biden going with his son on Air Force 2 to junkets to different parts of the world to get his son overpaid for positions paying way too much for his experience was a way to pay off president biden. You can say the same thing if people would go to Trump Hotel to get favor with President Trump and that can still be investigated but this investigation into the mayor of moscow's wife giving money, the Chinese working closely with Hunter Biden and the ukrainians working closely with Hunter Biden to give him lots of money is going to come back and bite the whole family because it was the whole family. Not just Joe and Hunter but also the brother of Joe Biden.

When I worked for a govt contractor, govt people interviewed us every year about our handling of classified info. They asked us to rat out any colleagues that might have problems in their lives that could make them vulnerable to foreign influence, anyone acting suspicious regarding documents. I have no doubt that I would have gone to prison if I mishandled stuff. But obviously there are different rules for special people.

In my opinion, the problem is not which president or vice-president took home classified documents and didn't return one for for for whatever reason - probably all have at one time or another.
The problem lies in how classified documents are accounted for. It appears that even a simple library book has more accountability than a classified document.
If one checks out a library book, there is a system in place that keeps track of who checked out which book - by title - on which date, and whether that book was returned. There is also a process in place that will be activated if the book is not returned.
Evidently there is no such system at the federal level for classified documents. It is apparently just assumed that anyone authorized to have access to a classified document is responsible enough to return the document without having to be reminded to do so.
Therefore, until an accountability system for classified documents is put into place AND enforced, the problem will continue.
No elected official, including those who occupy the Oval Office are above the law and there must be a system in place to hold them accountable. However, this also means that whoever is responsible for that system much have the courage to say to whomever something similar to: Document title is past due and must be returned to or it must once again be checked out. OR Sir (Madame) you term as (name of position) has ended and the following document(s) must be returned to this office by (given date). If they are not returned by the date stated above the following action will be taken: (Nature of action.)

You came up with a good method to handle classified documents similar to a library book. Unfortunately, it makes too much sense therefore will never be implemented. It bothers me that too many civilians don’t have any idea about the importance of securing classified documents properly.

I would be willing to bet there are service members in the brig/prison fro mishandling documents as we speak. They are being held accountable for their actions, but if they are paying attention they will soon have the grounds to have their convictions turned over. The current staff of GOs seem to be perfectly willing to conform to the new standard dictated by the lar left minority.
This is the slippery slope we are on. We have been teaching the next generation that they will not be held accountable for anything. Inclusion and equity have replaced trying harder to be the best at something. When schools withhold merit awards that would help with college admissions and scholarships to keep the scales balanced between demographics it teaches a very wrong message. The problem is that is being normalized by the media. Most networks refuse to tell these stories because doing so would put them at risk of being cancelled.
My fellow Americans, we are fucked. It's only a matter of time before the police, the military and any form of structure are removed from our society.

All one has to ask if any of us were in the same situation what would happen to us . We all know the answer to that question . In the old days while in the Army there was a saying "Rank has it's prevledge " .

We have enough information to know the documents where there and the documents should not have been there. The problem is bigger than Biden and his handling of classified materials. I remember several instances in the past where politicians were given access to classified information and than leaked them and later complained because information was being denied them. I think when it comes to lack of security and leaks one of our weakest links are elected officials.
Biden has earned and Deserves all the heat he is getting on this issue. Presidents and Vice-Presidents may need to see classified materials but there is no need to hoard or lose track of them.
I hope Biden learns from this mistake and along with our legislators makes constructive moves to stop this threat to our country.
