Many of us have one thing that really gets to us. I have to say that probably my biggest pet peeve (as it pertains to the military) are ill fitted ACU tops. I constantly find myself explaining to people how their uniform should fit.
What is your pet peeve?

Of my pet peeves, the biggest would have to be the assumptions that civilians have about the military. Because I'm a veteran, of course I *have* to be a programmed killer that can snap at any time. Or I *have* to be a drill sergeant type that will make people cringe for looking at me wrong.
I am neither. Yes, I have my moments that I'm less inclined to put up with people's crap, but those are few and far between.

Oh God, where to start. How about with this crap that grunts are getting busted up M16's that probably saw action back in OIF I, but admin Marines are rolling out to the range with brand new M4's and optics that actually function. For the life of me I can't figure out why the Corps would not give grunts first priority for the newer, better weapons.
The cutting score system is another problem, especially for grunts. Someone explain how a boot who's been in for less total time than I've spent in the field rates Corporal in half the time it took me to pick up.
Black chevrons on woodland camo. I'm sorry, but if you're E-8 or E-9, you're probably just gonna get a "Good morning, sir" from me (which is permissible when you do not know the Marine's rank).

My 1911a1 saw action in WWII (tended to fire auto ever so often), my M14 saw action in Korea, however, my M14 was taken away in Vietnam and I got a 'brand new' M16, ironically it jammed a lot and broke firing. pins, after a couple months, I traded it back for my M14 .

I'm confused. Are you saying your M-14 saw action it the Korean conflict,or are you saying it was used to repel border conflicts after the main conflict?

My biggest pet peeve is when somebody says, "ax," instead of ask. This is similar to fingernails scratching a blackboard.

Senior Enlisted who treat their personal pet peeves as though they are Military Orders and thus try to enforce them as such.

The base of the zipper for the FROG suit top is located in the same position as the top botton used on the utility blouse. I had a 1stSgt insist that the FROG top was to be zipped to the collar bone as it being unzipped was his pet peeve there was no order for this and he about lost his hand one day when he grabbed my zipper when I returned from RSPing and Clearing 17 IED's.

Any time a unifom item issued to Soldiers is prohibited for wear. During a deployment to Iraq the brigade that owned the FOB i was at prohibited the use of the boonie hat. At the same time the MNCI CSM sent an email blast saying that the boonie hat offers Soldiers the best sun protection and all Soldiers should be encouraged to wear the boonie. We continued to wear the patrol cap.

Today's new one: The guy in the left lane refuses to pass the tractor trailer in the next lane over. You can see there's no one in front of him for 1/4 mile but nope, they ain't passing, nor will they move over and let you go by. Happened twice this week.

I drove tractor trailer for 15yrs after retiring! OH, the stories and what I saw were unimagineable. You would be surprised at how stupid people are in trucks and 4-wheelers (POV's). There is more then enough to go around. Slow truck trying to pass a slow truck on a hill. Truck coming up inches from your bumper and you see grill in your mirror. 4 wheelers cutting 3 to 4 lanes over to hit the exit ramp at last minute. Construction zones (The Worse) and improper merging or jumping line because they are in a hurry. No, Courtsey what so ever. Military base and late because of piss poor planning, PT, Formation, Lunch hour ect. Driving to fast for conditions and on and on and on! LOL .my vent is done TGIF. Good question, Maj Robert Petrarca..

People quoting regulations that have not read the regulations. Then they quote you stuff that are at least 10 years out of date. Or they quote you something out of the Army Times about a potential upcoming change.

Don't be friggen late, if you are ten minutes early you are already late. As a civilian I still have problems with my employee's being late. Set an alarm, do some backwards planning, don't be late. To me it is the ultimate sign of disrespect. It shows that what you have to do and where you have to be is not important. Uhggg.
Ok, I am over it, carry on.

My Biggest Pet Peeve is not so much military, as it is human nature. We live in Houston, where gridlock was not so much invented as perfected. Five million people meeting on the highways twice a day... you get the general idea. So, there we are, sailing along, when some yahoo jerks their wheel and jumps three lanes of traffic, ending up in front of you, without using a dang blinker!
Directionals people!!! Find them and use them!
Yes, I am sitting here muttering bad words as I recall the last drive I took on Interstate 10, driving a 37 ft RV, when a Mini Cooper jumped in front of me and hit their brakes. I am telling you, not good for the old lady's blood pressure or the ears of her 5 year old grandson who was riding shotgun! (Stepping off the soapbox now)

A bad presentation is mine. Power Point is not the instructor, you are. I have seen so many soldiers simple just read off the power point. If they wanted us to simply read it they would have put it in an SSD. If they want someone to lecture about the said topic they put a person in place to do that. At one point when I was a SGT I stopped a 1SG in the middle of class and asked him if I could teach the class instead. I felt it was a disservice to those in attendance and he shouldn't be up there if he didn't know what he was doing. He let me take over and those in attendance took away much more than they would have with the 1SG. The 1SG pretty much hated me after that but it wouldn't have happened if he was prepared as he should have been.
