What is the process for receiving backpay for my time in AIT when I was an E-3, but was being paid as an E-1?

During in processing for ait, the system said I was E-1 base pay. However, I am an E-3. My unit does not have 4187s for my promotion but they are creating them to send to me. After receiving these and showing them to finance I’d imagine my base pay will be that of an E-3. However would I get backpay for the amount of time that I am being paid as an E-1 or how does that work?

When your unit enters your effective date of promotion into the system, it will create a pay transaction which will start your back pay.
If that doesn't happen you should submit a pay inquiry.
Do you have a DA 4187 for your advancement to E-2? That should also provide back pay depending on the date. Also you'll need a copy for your records.

Thank you for this info SFC. I do not have a 4187 to E-2 or to E-3. My unit never created them but I contacted them yesterday and they are going to create them to send to me. It is on my ERB showing my effective date but no 4187s show up on iPerms.

You have these mythical beings known as NCO's that are there to assist you with any questions you may have

But SSG NCO’s are scary. PFC Riley L your first First line leaders job literally is to help you with stuff like this.

E-3 pay would be effective the date of the promotion. So you would be back pay'ed to the date of the promotion.
