I am just curious to see what the opinions are on Camp San Luis Obispo for those who have attended a school there or drill there? I am attending the 31B reclass course here and I gotta say this is probably one of the best school houses I've ever been to, plus great instructors. What are your opinions on this post for those who've been there?

Honestly, Camp SLO is one of the better places the CA ANG has to offer. It's a college town so a very "target-rich environment." It's on the coast so it's good weather; it's central so you can cruise up and down highway 1, maybe go to Pismo and drive on the dunes. Very awesome place. It's much better than Camp Bob to the North.

Training facilities recently updated, but the Base-ammenities are minimal. Located near the Pacific resulting in mild weather. A California State University is located Off-base, with a medium sized town. Hurst Castle is close and worth visiting.

on the 50th Anniversary of VJ day, at a local cigar store in San Jose met a Vet who was Cal Guard before the war and at AT at CSLO, unit ruck marching down the road, then there was this strange sound, and then the Horse Cavalry came galloping around the corner. On X-mas day after Pearl Harbor he was guarding a bridge in Sacramento with a Thompson, everybody driving by was giving him drinks, he still doesn't know how he made it to the end of his shift. Then went on to the Army Air corps and was a crew chief on C-47s, and for the Airborne at D-Day, all of the paratroopers were grabbing at him as they were exiting the plane "Sarge, you're coming with us!!" he was hanging on to the plane for dear life!
