One of the things that has bothered me is the lack of respect for our flag. I just don't understand how people driving on post at 1700 don't get out and salute. Sometimes I just want to pull my car in the middle of the road and stop traffic myself. Am I the only one or anybody else feel the same way?

There is no excuse. As I recall, when I was at Langley AFB, the base implemented a close the outbound gates at that time to prevent people from continuing driving while retreat, and the national anthem were played. Anyone correct me if I am wrong. But I think that that should be a policy to tell people to stop. Your supposed to stop your car when you hear the first note of retreat, but not everyone will hear it because they have the windows up or the music is to loud for them to hear it. Of course if they pay attention and see other cars pull over and stop, then they are supposed to stop too...

It's sad isn't it? I think it's cultural; people are just too self-absorbed to stop for just a minute and render tribute. It's up to us to do more than tell Soldiers that traditions are important; we have to take time to explain why they are important.
