What do you think of the new Army PT uniform?

I've seen the Soldiers wearing the black and gold uniforms for pt recently but only a few. The Army seems to have this problem with uniform changes, I'm a little annoyed. Although I think the current PT's are bland, I don't feel like the Army should be shelling out all this money for flair. It's the same uniform, different color scheme, anyone else annoyed by this? I feel if they were going to make new PTs they could have changed them up besides color. Not to mention I really hate the LS turtle neck. Also, does anyone know the wear date for these new PT's?

At least we aren't Navy! So many uniforms!

No joke about all the Navy uniforms. If you opt for the brooks brothers version of the dress uniforms, you can easily be hitting $1500-2000 for initial issue of whites and blues alone. On top of that, you're paying for alterations to every set of khakis.
I agree with you on spending money but the new pt's. Will have some improvements not just color change. Better pockets for keys and ID. The long sleeve won't be a turtle neck. The shirt material is supposed to be more under armor like. Should be some improvements but I would rather have paper to print on and would kill for some money to buy paper towels at the office.

even if the Army did not change the pattern/design to APFU, it would still spend money in the production of the current IPFU
This may sound silly but coming from a female perspective I would love if they made sizes that fit me better. I understand women are the minority and such but part of being a Soldier is at least looking the part. The smallest sizes still look like I am wearing a baggy ill-fitting PT uniform. The shirt sleeves at least reach my elbows. I would at least like to try to look squared away so I am excited for the new uniform because I am told it will fit me better and my female counterparts.

If you're worried about looking "unprofessional" while in PTs you should probably reconsider your PT program. Two factors matter here. 1. Does fit interfere with freedom of movement? 2. Are the proper parts that need to be covered for decency staying covered during productive exercise? "Looking professional" doesn't have any place in the Physical Training environment.

The new uniform, although a slightly better fit than the grey and black pfu, are still too big for females, especially those of us who get taped. The isshe is that there is way too much slack in these shorts, and unless the first you have a huge butt to fill that slack, it's hard to consistently and accurately guage the placement of the measuring tape. With the last two iterations of the pfu trunks females have to not only ensure that proper placement and tension (to compensate for the wearing of pfu trunks), but that excess slack is held away from the area being measured. This circus act does not contribute to accurate body fat measurements.

SGT (Join to see) - yes, no demale likes to walk around looking like she has a penis. That's one. Would you like it if you had to wear pfu trunks that did not have extra space for your "goods" are too short (some guys like this) and have way too much slack around the hip, and did not sit low enough on your body? Would you like to have to wear that pfu trunk while you are getting your body fat measured? Last time i checked, maled fo not have to wear there baggy pt shirt while having their waist measurement taken.
It will be 2015 before the Army starts giving them to basic soldiers and then another year or two until they are mandatory for all. This is pretty much the same as when we switched from the old greys to the current uniforms. Since I have hated the current heavy, expensive uniforms I am looking towards the new release especially if it gets rid of that F$%^ing PT belt. Now I am sure some high speeds will think it should be kept, probably the same ones who made Soldiers with the new fully reflective uniforms wear a PT belt, but that thing needs to disappear. Improving the uniform and learning from mistakes is never a problem. One of your complaints, the turtle neck, is removed from the uniform setup. Take a second to look at the good side of a new uniform instead of wanting to stay with a broken uniform.

The new uniforms are getting rid of the reflective portions. Sadly, it would appear that the PT belt is going nowhere.

Black I agree looks very nice but I think its a horrible choice for PT. It is going to hold more body heat and potentially cause more heat casualties in the summer time. Additionally why should we field a PT uniform with even less visibility when most PT is conducted during low visibility hours.

Ma'am,
I too am a "ginger" and can completely related to your experience with the red face....lol.

Well, in that case, 2LT Shelton, I'm right there with you... don't have the red hair to prove it, but the rest of me is prone to extreme redness with exertion...
Nothing was wrong with the PT Uniform from the 1970's, you do PT in the damn things not a formal inspection, they could have changed the fabric, as needed, but shorts are shorts and tee shirts are tee shirts, sweats are sweats, most troops are not going to the Olympics and don't need a suit that resists the wind and makes you run 1/10 of a mile an hour faster, they need to be able to do PT in them. The reversible yellow/black tee with yellow shorts allowed for just that!

I wonder if it's all the profiles they factored in. Obviously, I mean hey, if that isn't the case, why don't the letters reflect now? Yellow is the perfect color for that, and no, bam, I go for a run, I gotta hope my Olds don't die because if they do I have to switch to the "new" and wear the infernal mommy approved reflective belt

Though sadly, this would be less redundant then having a completely black uniform.
Though, realistically, the question is, if these are so safe, why has Nasa created artificial solar rings around earth using the same material.

2 things I'm looking forward to... not having the elastic bottoms on the pants and having a shirt that isn't a burlap sack in humidity. The current shirt is ridiculous - the neck is too tight and it holds more water than a sponge.

I've got to admit that I will be "that guy" in my formation when it comes to the new PT uniform. I absolutely hate the current one - the shorts are the only part that don't suck. I will be purchasing immediately upon authorization/availability.
Bland? Have you seen previous uniforms?
I don't like the current IPFU but it is 100 times better than what we had in the past. I don't think the current IPFU should be such a priority, if it isn't broke don't fix it. We have more important things we should be using our money for in regards to research and development

The gray ones were comfortable to sleep in. Male soldiers looked, kinda, odd doing PT in them, though.
