Some have had issues with the way they present themselves, while other praise it. How do you feel about DA Police?

I am an MP,  so I work hand in hand in hand with DA Civilian Police. Without them, my detachment wouldn't be able to make mission. We wouldn't be able to meet the additional taskings and events that call for Military Police. I don't mind working along side the DA Civilian Police. However, the DASG (DA Security Guards) on the gates are a whole different story. As a whole, they present themselves poorly. They give the actual patrols a bad name as well. What they don't get is most don't know the difference between a DACP and a DASG. So to your average Joe coming through the gate they see "Police." I dont know how many complaints we get daily about the security guards at the gate.

Everything CPL Hornsby said... I concur. I remember walking into the shoppette once at Sill, and having a surprised 1SG say " Holy crap! There's MPs here?" That's how much we needed DACP support. There were so few MPs in the det, we were almost nonexistent. Without them, there would be no policing on most TRADOC installations. Yes, there are some power hungry ones that just want to make your life miserable. Newsflash: there's MPs like that too. The only real problem people have is that a civilian has some real authority over a Soldier on a military installation. The PMOs typically don't help themselves with that aspect either. There's typically a lot of "green-suiter this" and "blue-suiter that" nonsense that gets thrown around, and that of course doesn't help anything.

As a Military Policeman, I have mixed emotions when thinking about this question.  The DACP often do help with dealing with senior personnel when they are potential suspects or even at a traffic stop.  For some people it is not easy for them to accept that a junior person is telling them that they are wrong.  This is where the DACP come into play because they do not fall into the military rank structure at all except for their direct supervisors.  Also, some of them are actual civilian police officers that need a second job or have had civilian law enforcement training.  Since they do not move around every couple of years like the active duty Soldiers, they usually have more intimate knowledge about the installation and what the crime stats are about the post.  It really depends on the people that are working as DACP and whether or not they are actively trying to do adequate police work instead of trying to can a case because they do not want to work it.

Some of the DA guards have to much of a power trip. They use there prior service against soldiers to earn a little more respect. The way they approach people can be taking as rude and disrespectful. Making a scene in a public area should be avoided and they seem to like the attention. But this does not apply to all DA guards.

They should have to salute all vets and say yes sir and no sir to all vets.   They should be forced to respect veterans and SM at all times.

SSgt Olson are you serious? you want civilians to be required to salute? Whats next? I am a DACP and we are required to address service members by their rank or as sir, there are some that don't. This is a problem with an individual not the group. Respect is always a priority. Please also remember that the majority are all Veterans. So respect them as well.
