What do you do when a soldier files an IG complaint against you?

A soldier goes to ig on you after him being in your shop for 5 weeks. He receives a counseling for disrespecting a senior NCO and one for disobeying a lawful order. He is an e4 and the NCO is an e6. What happens?

Nothing, it is his right. Continue operations as normal. Any change in your current routine could be perceived and an attack against him for going to IG. Speak to your 1sg about moving him to another section if you think it is necessary.

I don't know the circumstances, but I don't like moving people if I can keep from it. I found that many Soldiers depended on this and never stayed in one place long enough to be counseled and held accountable for their shortcomings or problems. By continuing to move around they flew under the radar. It's not fair to the gaining Sections/Unit and it isn't fair to the individual. There are exceptions and extremes where Soldiers do need to be moved, but this doesn't sound like one to me.

And that is why accurate comprehensive evaluations are so important. Actually some of my best personnel management experience was at a site that used to temporarily process the command's bad apples. I made it my mission to reform them. IMO that resulted in my promotion to E-8.

Don't let the IG compliant bother you if you are holding the standards and treating all soldiers under you fairly. The IG complaint will be found in your favor and then you will have ammo to ask your 1SG or Commander about moving this soldier. However, if you are a good NCO, use this event as lesson to educate this younger soldier and the soldiers assigned to you that you are a top notch NCO.

Let the IG conduct their investigation and the truth will unfold. If you have done nothing wrong then there should be nothing to worry about.

Being an IG, any Soldiers can come talk with the IG. We will then ask, "have you talked with the chain of command." Ultimately the command team can fix the problem. There is no need for lawyers, at this point. Once all facts are compiled the IG will advise the command i.e: 15-6, commanders inquirer. But the commander has UCMJ authority, not IG. Hope this helps.

Depends on the people in chain. They can disrespect you in many ways but if you are lower ranl and have had enough and say something back to them finally, all of a sudden the lower ranking individual is "insubordinate" then the higher ranks use that against you even though they provoked it due to their abuse of authority.

I just recently talked with the I.G. I know if I even try to lodge a complaint these a-holes in my unit will retaliate in the future somehow. And dob' t go on to say that is against blah, blah, blah, too. It doesn't matter when they decide to agree on the same story and you people take that and their higher ranks as they are all not lying. I wish all the powers that be like the O.G., JAG, and Congressional Dept. OF Army Investgators would wake the hell up to this kind of thing....
