I recommend you start off with the lower level Comptia certifications like A+. Move your way up to Network+ and eventually Security+. The great thing about the higher Comptia certs is that when you renew them (they expire every 3 years) it automatically renews any subordinate certs.

Most DoD jobs require Sec+ as a baseline cert. But not knowing your background, I've actually seen a few straight civilian jobs that specify A+ and Net+. And like I said, if you get those 3 certs, renewing Sec+ would automatically renew the 2 lower ones.

I don't think (I could very well be wrong, I'd have to look it up) that Linux+ is included with A+, Net+, and Sec+ as far as renewal. Yes it's a COMPTIA cert but I don't think if you had say Linux+ and Sec+, that your Linux+ would get renewed when you renew your Sec+, or vice versa.

PO1 John Miller - That's not what I was saying. I was simply saying they all count as beginner level certs. Once I get Linux +, I plan to go for LPIC-2 anyway.

It is recommended to get the most important certs before getting the lower certs for hiring purposes
