What are the key things a Squadron GySgt should do to ensure success? What makes a great Squadron Guns?

First and foremost take care of your troops. My old Platoon Sgt once told me “People first, Mission always.”

If you don’t take care of your troops the mission may fail. That doesn’t mean you have to be buddies just look after them. You must gain there respect before you will get there respect.

Squadron Guns, the administrative right hand to the SgtMaj. full of all the menial pain in the butt tasks that require the coordination of herding cats, and the keeper of the duty roster. Develop a fair system for developing the duty rostser. I was always a fan of alphabetical and if they had a non-availability on their day they stand it the first available day and went back to their spot in line. Start planning the ball early, develop a good POA&M.
