I saw this post thanks to SPC David Wolcott. We were both wondering if it is accurate. Please chime in especially if you live in said city.

I need to look for the article that I read a few days ago, but San Antonio, TX is actually one of the top cities for Veterans to live in. I would have to agree. I have lived there my whole life, minus the places the military has told me to go.

I've been in SA for going on 11 yrs now. I was very surprised that it wasn't on the list. With it having the nickname, "Military City, USA" it should have definitely made the list. The community is very Veteran friendly for the most part with many businesses offering military discounts. Not to mention the health care here is pretty close to top notch. I would be interested to know what these rankings were based from.

I agree with both of you. I currently am stationed at Ft. Bragg, and I would not recommend it as a place to live for any veteran friend of mine. Crime rate and violence in this small town is horrible, It's too far away from everything, and there is not a lot of growth to make it a successful place to live. It's a typical military town that would struggle to make it if not Bragg being located right in the middle of it.

I think there has to also be a somewhat thriving economy in place. Also an infrastructure that frankly many smaller cities do not have to provide basic services especially when many state budgets have deficits and/or have cut services.

I almost died laughing when I fayetteville on the list. That's where I'm living now after I got out. The va is a joke here, you have to wait months to get an appointment and wait even longer for a follow up. The crime rate here is sky high. Unemployment for vets is high too. I lucked out with my job because I know people who know people. I wouldn't recommend this town to anyone.

"Pope Air Force Base is also located near Fayetteville, and Camp Lejeune is about 106 miles away. This gives veterans three options for commissary and access to services."
