42A is like 5 weeks, I think. 12B isn't very long, either....5 weeks as well, if memory serves

PFC (Join to see) - I totally enjoyed my time as a 12B. Getting paid to blow things up. It was awesome

Didn't 12B switch to One Station Unit Training like the Infantry? I believe both are officially 14 weeks, but expect it all to be closer to 16 weeks with in processing and all the misc. stuff.

CPT Lawrence Cable - Yes, 12B is OSUT, but not completely restrictive. What I mean is that I had reclassed to 12B and joined the company about 2 weeks before BCT grad and start of AIT. This young troop could possibly be in the same situation since he has already been through BCT

MSG (Join to see) - I saw that below after I responded. In the Infantry OSUT, they dumped the Prior Service/Reclassification people in on us at the end of Week Eight, which is supposedly the end of the Basic phase, although I didn't notice a lot of difference afterwards.

I enlisted as a 09S last year, went through BCT and am now awaiting to go to OCS. During this waiting period I found out that ROTC would best fit my needs, but would need to be MOS-Q to receive all of the benefits. The ROTC recruiter told me to just attend the shortest AIT possible, and that it doesn't matter what it is because I wont be doing that job. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the input. In a perfect world I would like to find an MOS that is short, yet I wouldn't mind falling back on if I didn't commission for any reason. I have heard that 11B is fairly short. The reason I feel ROTC would better suit my needs is that after finishing OCS you have two years to finish your bachelors degree. In my situation I have the 90 credit hours to go to OCS, but together they don't add up to much. So that being said I have over 2.5 years of schooling left.

In your situation, then either 11B or 12B would work. Since you have Basic, they would drop you in around week 8 of 14.

PFC (Join to see) - After reading all of your situation, I agree that ROTC is a good route for you. If you are MOS qualified, you can skip the first two years, you would qualify for any State Education Benefits that the Guard in your state offers, GI Bill, and if you go SMP (simultaneous membership program), you get your drill pay at an E-5 pay grade and you don't lose any Time in Service. Pick an MOS, go to the AIT phase this summer and the back to school in the Fall as an ROTC Cadet.
The no lose of Time in Service means a bigger paycheck when you Commission since you will have at least 2 years TIS and more likely 3.
