Good Afternoon Gunny,
While your dependents are eligible for benefits under Chapter 35, depending on the state you reside in they could be eligible for free instate tuition. Here in Virginia if you're 100% permanently and totally disabled for any reason your children are entitled to 48 months of free tuition. If you're 100% permanently and totaled disabled due to enemy action it's 48 months of free tuition AND room + board. In addition to benefits for you dependents, some states like Virginia, South Carolina, etc also exempt you from property taxes on your primary residence. Some states offer a percentage reduction. Either way your states Department of Veteran Services would be your first point of inquiry.
Have a good day Gunny.

Sgt. Rapier,
Thanks for your response and essential information. It’s interesting to see how the individual states vary in the benefits they offer.

I am a survivor of a 100% P & T SC Vietnam veteran and used my Chapter 35 benefits to finish my degree at American Military University.
I have more info on this benefit at http://www.hadit.com
The site is free and you can read the info as a guest.
It is one of many topics we cover in the arduous VA claims process

Chapter 35 allows educational benefits to dependents of 100% permanently disabled veterans(ages 18-26). Sometimes they will pay before age 18 and after 26.

CPL Cales,
Thank you for your response. Do you happen to know in which instances they would pay before 18? My 13yr old daughter is going to a private catholic school with a large tuition. Wondering if I can use my 100% disability benefits to cover some of those costs? Thanks and Semper Fi.

Chapter 35 if you are 100% P & T. Your state may offer benefits as well. In Louisiana at 90% and above gets them tuition exemption.

GySgt Michael Cruz Chapter 35 does and I think the Title 29 for tuition exemption in Louisiana is up to 25 only. My stepson used both to complete his education.

GySgt Michael Cruz Chapter 35, according to what I read, will pay the stipend the last 5 months for a senior in High school. Not sure if student has to be 18.
