Are there any individuals looking to volunteer in the DMV area? If so We Feed Our People (WFOP) is holding its annual day of service event January 16-18, 2016. More information about WFOP can be found at their website http://www.wefeedourpeople.org or on the Facebook event page https://www.facebook.com/events/ [login to see] 98627/ looking forward to seeing you there.
Their Story
When WFOP was first launched in 1988, programs that provided for the homeless, including most shelters, did not provide meals on Sundays and holidays. As a result the King Holiday would harm those that he dedicated the last days of his life attempting to help – poor people. Originally; our effort involved a few friends donating the money they would receive for the paid holiday to prepare and serve a meal to the 12-15 people who lived in the park next to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library in downtown Washington, DC. As these friends shared this idea with others, the desire to be a part and to contribute began to grow. Volunteers came by the dozens with freshly cooked turkeys, vegetables, breads and warm clothes. The simple idea of three students to cook food in their homes for 12-15 homeless people had turned into an event that provided meals and warm clothing for over 400 people and had the support of nearly 100 volunteers. This was all accomplished within one week of the inception of the idea.

MSG(P) (Join to see) while we can't blame no one for the cold, I wish it was more organized. It wasn't the experience I was expecting...

Really, I had a good time on Saturday myself prepping the food. Didn't get to make it out today although I wish I had.

MSG(P) (Join to see) like, honestly, next year, I rather donate the $18 we spent on parking than doing it again. I'm pretty sure those meal prepping had a different experience, for those of us that were serving today it was just different. I went with my wife, my CH Assistant and another NCO from our BN and we all felt the same, it needs more organization.

I believe there is some form of AAR with this organization. I will look into it and make that recommendation on our behalf.
Also, thank you for selflessly providing your free time to such a great cause. Please echo those words to your battle buddies for me as well.
