What advice do you have for someone attempting to transition into an airport security (or something similar) career?

I recommend DHS and not TSA. DHS is actual law enforcement with a multitude of training opportunities and duties which is hiring big time especially in the veteran community.

This is very good advice most DHS LEO jobs start around 90k /year but if you aren't looking for that kind then look into local law enforments for your state and get P.O.S.T sertified either through an academy or get hired by a Police Department who will pay for you to go to the academy. Also you can file for occupational rehabilitation through the VA and get paid to learn the new job as an apprenticeship program .

Often larger Army reserve centers have some sort of office that provides services to job seeking Soldiers. Try the Allen Hall Reserve Center. Also try government job sites on line or TSA website.

Hey Zach. You might do well to start with some sort of local law enforcement, like a county or municipal department. They're often easier to get in with, and provide great experience. I know the Louisville, KY airport has their own police department (who also serve as firefighters and EMTs) but I'm not sure how many rely on something other than TSA.
