Gov. Scott Walker has signed a bill that makes lying about military service a crime.

The Republican bill makes falsely claiming military service or a military award a misdemeanor punishable by up to nine months in jail and $10,000 in fines.

If someone makes those claims intending to commit or aid another crime he or she would be guilty of a felony punishable by up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Walker signed the bill Wednesday.

The Assembly passed the measure in April. The Senate followed suit in May.

What happens to those who make false claims against a person? What punishment is there for them lying? I'm asking only because I went thru the bull crap and proved the company commander wrong as two left feet. What punishment is there for him and what about me and my ordeal! Please help me understand

Great. 1 issue resolved. Maybe someone in our government can begin to resolve real issues like benefits for all of us. I don't really believe any representative needs another "cost of living" raise but we do.

If people want to pose as veterans to get sympathy or money or recognition then I say send them to basic training as their sentence. Nothing easy though, needs to be USMC or Army then sign them up for infantry. Sorry Air Force don't know much about your boot, and the Navy boot was a joke... I was challenged more in Boy Scouts!

I agree with this 100%. If you want the recognition and valor then join the military like the rest of us.
