Gov. Scott Walker has signed a bill that makes lying about military service a crime.
The Republican bill makes falsely claiming military service or a military award a misdemeanor punishable by up to nine months in jail and $10,000 in fines.
If someone makes those claims intending to commit or aid another crime he or she would be guilty of a felony punishable by up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
Walker signed the bill Wednesday.
The Assembly passed the measure in April. The Senate followed suit in May.

If they don't have the balls to serve their country then they need to be put in jail for posing as a service member or veterans

I appreciate that being passed. I'm so tired of people falsely claiming to be military. If you don't have the guts to actually do what we do then keep your mouth shut.

Most of the time you can spot them pretty quick and know they are frauds because their uniforms are not right the tricky ones are those who have a copy of AR 670-1

Anybody should be able to tell that this guy pictured is just a clown. Don't think he should go to prison unless he was involved in some other fraudulent activity.

Be careful. We had a Vietnam Vet here falsely accused, and accosted verbally in public by a Harrisburg police officer. AND the officer was also an old Marine.

Harrisburg mayor arranges personal apology, says police can learn from mistaken 'stolen valor'...
Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse said Detective John O'Connor and Capt. Deric Moody want to meet with Robert Ford, of Marysville, to apologize for the way they handled a "stolen valor" complaint by an Army soldier who was suspicious of the uniform worn by Ford at ArtsFest. Ford served as a Marine from 1958 to 1964.
