Gov. Scott Walker has signed a bill that makes lying about military service a crime.

The Republican bill makes falsely claiming military service or a military award a misdemeanor punishable by up to nine months in jail and $10,000 in fines.

If someone makes those claims intending to commit or aid another crime he or she would be guilty of a felony punishable by up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Walker signed the bill Wednesday.

The Assembly passed the measure in April. The Senate followed suit in May.

I think it is too funny when you ask one of the fake where they were and what they did and they have no idea, especially when you ask them if they are "SHELLBACKS" and they don't know how to respond because they don't know what a SHELLBACK IS !

Isnt Stolen Valor already punishable by law? So that would make this bill redundant.

Unfortunately, it wont stand challenge. The SCOTUS already ruled on this against the stolen valor act calling impersonation "free speech". Only attempting to profit from it is punishable.

It's about time people stop taking credit for something they never did.

Stolen Valor has been going on for years. We use to have people come into the recruiting office and tell us war stories and instead of calling them out, we just asked questions and laughed at their responses. Good Times.

Mental Illness? Please this cannot be characterized like so many other excuses as a reason these people are the victims. They know full well what they are doing. It takes a lot to dress up and seek attention. I will not concede this to mental illness. It is selfish, as well as seeking handouts and notoriety.
