VFW or American Legion? Numbers are dwindling, they both need membership...

Have you reached out to your local military organizations and chosen to join or have you chose to distance yourself from these military fraternities?
If so, why?
They both have a rather large lobbyist effort in WA and supposedly are looking out for our veterans 'best interests'.
What side of the fence are you on? For or against? If you are not against, why haven't you joined? FYI - I am current paying a life-time member of the VFW.
If there are other organizations that you are a member or recommend, please list them...like Salvation Army or Knights of Columbus...
