Uniformed Navy Officer Turned Away From NY Hotel Bar For Violating Dress Code: How would You Deal With This Situation?

An unidentified female Navy Officer, staying at an upscale NYC hotel with family while visiting during Fleet Week festivities last week was taken aback when her group was stopped by bouncers and prevented from entering the hotel's bar one evening. At first, nobody could figure it out, everyone was dressed in professional attire; until the bouncer's indicated that the Officer's Class A Uniform did not fit it's criteria for female dress, and they weren't backing down. How about it? How would you address such an insulting situation?

Fleet Week is a tradition in NYC, putting a rookie bouncer at the door was a bad move on that bar's part.

Ensure that the name of the establishment is bandied about as being unfriendly to service personnel and encourage others to NOT frequent the establishment.

As a Navy officer, you are required to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times, especially when in uniform. I don't believe walking away would solve the issue at hand and others may find themselves in the same situation, but may not be inclined to react in such a way. I feel that the best course of action would be to ask for the manager in order to see if exceptions may be made in the future. If the manager in noncompliant then I would suggest walking away.

I wouldn't be seen in uniform for the navy drinking alcohol, there is a bad enough image already. People take pictures of that sort of thing.

some people just don't know what's wright and what wrong, sad the bouncer did not notice the uniform of a Military Officer on Fleet week.

Very simple do like I would and post that sucker all over Facebook and CLUB reviews for other woman stand with you that place loses customers and probably replace the doorman ?

I would say ask to see the management,and if that didn't work then leave and go elsewhere without making a scene. A couple of other folks have basically said the same thing. Try to point out and correct the error,but don't make a scene as you are in uniform and are representing all service members at that point. Besides, do you really want to spend your money in an establishment that doesn't welcome service members in uniform in the front door? I sure don't.

After making a small scene about the bar's unpatriotic policy I'd leave and go somewhere where they would appreciate me. Not only should they have been allowed in, the first drink should've been on the house!

An apology would not have been enough. They would have been treating me and my entire family to an evening of entertainment, on the house.
