On August 26, an interpretation discrepancy between the legislation and current draft policies regarding financial assistance eligibility was brought to our attention by OSD. This relates to the three year registration requirement for any member who becomes entitled to retired or retainer pay vs registration requirement of someone who has been transferred to the Retired Reserve.

SFC (Join to see), do you know if Troops to Teachers can help a vet get their teaching cert if they've been out for a good amount of time? (I've been out about 13 years.) I would need assistance paying for the certification because I'm tapped out on undergrad aid.
Also, if you already have a degree, does it make the process easier? I have a couple of Bachelors degrees (History and Anthropology) and a Masters (Higher Education Student Affairs) and would LOVE to teach history at the secondary level (or social studies at K-8).

PO3 (Join to see) - I do believe that if its not easier with a degree already in hand, it's at least quicker. I had my degree (BA in English) so it was exceptionally easy, in my opinion.
I was in Texas at the time. I first tried substitute teaching to make sure that I liked it. I didn't want to end up owing the Army money for something I didn't enjoy. Turns out I loved it.
First thing I did was enroll in the tTTT program. Then I found an alternative certification program that suited me and my needs. My program was called I Teach Texas, a self-paced program that I liked.
Once I was enrolled in both the TTT program and the alternative certification program, I was then eligible to be hired as a full time teacher, even though I had not completed my program yet.
I was able to do the majority of my program in the spring (while subbing) and summer. I got hired full time in July and starting teaching the semester after I had subbed.
TTT paid for the cost of the alternative certification program. I would not have been able to pay for that on my own with what a sub teacher makes.
Lease let me know if I can answer any more questions.
