The American Legion, the VFW, and the DAV. Don't need to find two more. I'm a Life Member in those three, and believe that no other organizations are MORE involved in the lives of the military than these.

Pretty much my exsact thoughts. I signed up will AMVET because the AMVET service officer also does the DAV claims as well its only $15 lifetime membership. But this stuff can get addictive, I need to stick with who is practical and useful

PO3 Ellsworth Allen Westgate ... I've been around AMVETs for years. I admit, however, that I don't know much, if anything, about their inner working. And, you are right about getting caught in the onslaught of other military groups' membership drives. The three organizations I mentioned, I believe, are involved in the lives of veterans in such a way that their overlapping efforts, on behalf of every veteran in every known circumstance, cover any and all "cracks in the pavement" that military people, oftentimes, fall into.
Between you and I, me'thinks I'll re-investigate AMVETs. I might have overlooked something of specific value.
I hope you find what you are seeking.

PO3 Ellsworth Allen Westgate I choose to give to the person in need, directly......I have little to give, but what i have, is needed at the local level, no need to give it to an organization for distribution after taking the requisites 10, 20, 80% off the top for "operating costs" before handing the Vet $25 of the $100 I had to give.

Past Commander of the VFW, I got that covered. My Son-in-Law is DAV, got that covered. I don't remember if I paid this years dues for American Legion. Used to enjoy going to the Navy League Breakfasts. I used to belong to the Old Crows and NCVA.

The Old Crows is a neat organization. May I recommend the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO). I believe you might enjoy it. Visit their website: https://www.afio.com/
