Hunter S. Thomspon, USAF, early discharge "In summary, this airman, although talented, will not be guided by policy" "Sometimes his rebel and superior attitude seems to rub off on other airmen staff members."

George Carlin, USAF. Labeled an "unproductive airman" by his superiors, Carlin was discharged early on July 29, 1957. During his time in the Air Force he had been court-martialed three times, and also received many nonjudicial punishments

Robert J. "Bob" Keeshan, (a.k.a. "CPT. Kangaroo"), certainly is "on the list" as a member of the USMCR. Combat service isn't the only determining factor in becoming a veteran, 181 days of active service will do the job.

A list of my Top 10 Greatest Military Musicians I wrote a while back.
Steve Gadd maybe belongs on this list.

I think it won't be long before singer Alexis Cole belongs on this list, too.

Seen just about all the ones I can think of, but want to mention Elvis: drafted in '58 finished E-5 in '60, and during his 2 years, met Priscilla, lost his mother, was first introduced to amphetamines, and during several leave periods recorded 10 top 40 hits

Elvis was already a super star and could have gotten out of having to serve, but he said "I will do my duty and do not give me special treatment." Was a truck mechanic in the motor pool in Germany. I have heard (unverified) that Elvis paid for building lots of recreation facilities for the troops while he was in Germany.
