Really? This is typical DOD procurement: spend a whole lot of money to procure something that ends up being inadequate and then spend a whole lot more money to make it adequate. Oh, and then cry to Congress that you don't have the money to carry out your mission ...

I'll go along with you to a point LCDR (Join to see) --- but let's be honest, we don't always end up with the best of the best. Moreover, we often don't even end up getting what we thought we were getting (the joint strike fighter is a good example of that).

The follow on ships built after the USS San Antonio are really good highly capable ships. The procurement game always seems like we are being ripped off but that is because no one reports successes. I have made numerous post about the F-35 so I think everyone knows where I stand on that. One of my best friends is a retired F-16 pilot and we argue about it all the time to include last night at the bar (dedicated to one of his old COs) watching the kickoff of the NFL season.
