What a coincidence, it's now an up gunned Frigate of sorts. Snide comment out of the way now, These ships have created a wide range of responses from everyone from they are absolute crap to they are the perfect fit for the mission. The only thing I've ever seen that I personally think this platform (both classes) is better than all our ships is maneuverability. Having seen this class in particular, in person, conduct a snap 180 turn in about a boat length and a half and take off like a rocket blew my mind. That being said, there needs to be much more R&D that needs to happen to find something that will be survivable in combat and plain and simple more combat effective.

We have not had a real Naval shooting war in quite some time. Just like the British learned some hard lessons after theirs in the Falklands, I think that there will be a learning curve for us if/when we get into our next one.

I fully agree. The tactics developed from lessons learned that we use today will be tested and eventually lead to newer ones updated ones. The problem is tactics are easier to update/change vice equipment changes and new ship designs.

I thought they were renaming LCSs to Frigates?

Some of the ships will be upgraded and redesignated as Frigates. With the current restriction on only 40 ships to be produced I believe it will be 12 Frigates. The Frigates will also only support SUW and ASW. The ships that remain LCS will support SUW, ASW and MCM.

This article reports combining gear failures in two LCS from the same class in less than one month. Is this a construction issue, design issue, maintenance issue, training issue or what? To me as a seasoned engineering officer, I am very troubled by this...

I don't really know much about Navy ships. However the bad rap that I have heard on the LCS is that it is not survivable in combat. Hopefully they are fixing whatever caused them to reach that conclusion.

Hasbro should make a modern version of Battleship with realistic cost overruns and unauthorized upgrades made by contractors. Aww man you sunk my new contract!

And here we go again, upgrading a ship to be capable of doing it job after its been designed, cost overrun, built and commissioned.
I am pretty sure that this ship will not be within original design specs for another few years and few billion dollars in upgrades.
Sad that we accept half assed equipment and hold ourselves accountable for the tab.
