The new Army promotion system: the Army wants NCOs with more military education. Any thoughts or changes?

I understand the cause for why the system is going away from Combat points but in reality those are earned more or less. Most of us who have deployed before didn't necessarily ask to go. We answered the nations call to do our jobs abroad and in return for missing out on said college experience then were reward with supplemental points. Now the Army is telling us that we shouldn't have them and we should get back into school. Sounds like someone higher up misunderstood the plan. I don't know about most units but the units that i have been in aren't to keen on sending soldiers to military schools that aren't on station as well. So the chance of progressing to me are slimming down especially for those that have been in for quite some time.

I agree it is easy to back this system if you have spread picked up ssg but if you have not it is very hard. I get the fact that the army is trying to slow down promotions because a lot of soldiers got promoted too quickly. I do not understand why the army does not slow them down across the board though because honestly soldiers can be retrained to do another job, but some soldiers careers and livlehoods are at stake and others are home free based on what ab mos? This does not nor has it ever made sense unless we are talking eod or 18 series or something similar to that. Some mos s I have met ssg s who will tell you they have no use for college, and tell u they got promoted to ssg in 7 years, and in other mos s you will see soldiers who have 12 plus years of service and have close to masters degrees and these soldiers are getting ready to be rcp ed because hrc can not find a home for them. I am talking about good nco s being let go because our hrc system needs a lot of work.

Its not so much as people are seeing it as something they just invented but as we were so use to the old system or at least making headway in the old system and now they are pretty much telling us to deal with it. Primarily they changed it because of stagnant NCO'S in the E-6 and Senior enlisted ranks. Those that progressed so far and felt as though they didnt need to attend schools or do the basics for their particular pay grade. I remember being in WLC now BLC back in 2008 and there was an E-6 in my class.......that's downright ludicrous. Though no one wants to check up on that and now we have what we have today to prevent that from happening. The old system implemented post WWII era was because we needed educated soldiers to modernize what we have today....this new system was reinstated and tweaked because we slightly wanted more educated leaders and because individuals are flat out lazy.

Money goes to the unit's training budget i suppose and by training i mean field exercises. I offered once to pay for my own trip to Airborne school. Still told me i couldn't go.

I should of went when I had the opportunity and yeah that's right , it goes to the unit
