This write up from economist Dean Baker does a very good, and very succinct, job at pointing out one of the biggest reasons that the US pays FAR more than every other country for health care. The same Hep C drug that costs $1,000/treatment in India costs $84,000 in the US:

This doesn't really surprise me. On another note, because of your link, I found these stats about inequality and poverty. I wish I had seen this before I did that 2,200 word essay a few months ago.
