Both of them West Point graduates. Griest, a 26-year-old military police officer from Orange, Connecticut, and Haver, a 25-year-old Apache helicopter pilot from Coppers Cove, Texas, will get their Ranger Tabs alongside 94 male counterparts in a Georgia ceremony on Friday in Fort Benning.

With no Doubt they have proven themselves. This isn't something that you just realize one day that I am going to do. Both of them put their time and are now Rangers.

Kudos to them both.

What some people don't realize is that their class was only 90 Rangers. Ranger School has been consistently passing less and less. They are at a 30% success rate. So the school is actually getting tougher.

CPT (Join to see) - My take is that student preparation sucks anymore if you aren't coming out of IOBC, the 75th, 82nd or out of the ARNG RTAC. Looking at the statistics, they are losing more people during assessment, so a lot of people are showing up not in physical condition and suck at land navigation.

CPT (Join to see) - Lt. And that's with multiple Recycles. Imagine NO recycles. Then tell me your success rate. Tougher?? Give me a break. The program has gotten too easy. Used to be only the BEST of the BEST earned it. NOT anymore. SAD

Is it true that the 2 of them had to be RECYCLED Twice maybe 3 times in order to continue?

That's the point Lt. Its become too damn easy. My Camp Cmdr in Ranger School was someone you may have heard of; Charging Charlie Beckwith. He trained us hard and well for war. None of this Recycle nonsense. And the LAST thing I needed on the battlefield was someone's Mother, Grandaughter or Wife. What if baseball changed the rules and the batter was allowed FOUR strikes instead of 3? Result ; Higher batting averages, more hits, more homeruns. You get the idea. Rules were changed to make it easier especially for the girls. Ranger tab. Nov. ' 66. RVN. Ranger Inf Advisor. South Vietnamese Army. 1968 - 1969

CPT (Join to see) - My understanding is that both students were given a third try at passing RAP week. Infantry was my enlisted MOS and the one I commissioned originally and I can't name a single person that was given a third chance. I applaud the two that passed, but lets be honest about things.

CPT (Join to see) - For the record. Up to 1980 the average failure rate in Ranger school was OVER 65%. And that's with NO RECYCLES ( except medical).
With the " Gender Diverse ' Ranger program today, calculate your success rate if NO RECYCLES were allowed. You would have Many fewer earring the once coveted tab and the ladies who were both Recycled several times would have failed to earn the tab. Seems clear to me the Army in its. ' GENDER DIVERSITY' Strategy, has lowered standards and thus the Quality of the Ranger program. Very SAD.

CPT (Join to see) - My Ranger class's graduation. After the assault on Santa Rosa Island Charlie Beckwith and cadre took us on a long forced March back to the Doolittle airstrip at Eglin. We were beat. He lined us up said I bet you thought you were going to get your Ranger tabs now. Then He took us on a 2 mile run. cruel is the word. NO ONE fell out. Then he lined us up in 2 ranks and personally pinned the tab on each one of us. Dirty , exhausted yet exhilarated. We didn't get the bands and the hoopla at Benning. We preferred getting our tabs the way we did; Ranger tab Nov. ' 66

Recycled how many times? Used to be none. Standards were much higher. Why have they been lowered? Used to be Best of the Best Now with Soo many chances to Recycle now just an obstacle course get enough chances most anybody passes. Army has given up Quality for Quantity. SAD
