There must be something to it, WO1 (Join to see). Not only is that article a ringing endorsement for CrossFit, but LTG Abrams brought it to his entire (3rd Infantry) Division in 2012. That's not going to go unnoticed by his higher. Standard PRT must be "optional" when something like that happens.

The answer to your question is yes. Well, yes unless your activity gets a waiver passed through to higher HQ all the way to the approving authority of AR 350-1. PRT is mandatory training listed in Appendix G of AR 350-1.
