Should our top level military officials be appointed by election votes from military members?

No. Our traditional process of reviewing a total career performance evaluations allows weaknesses and strengths to be determined. That said, the system requires honest reporting seniors and members on the promotion board who can evaluate individuals and report their history accurately to the board. Promotions to O-6 and above have always been recognized to have a political component involved, but it has mostly been politics within the service. Outside Dem/Rep political influence should be forbidden as it is rarely if ever based upon military competence.

MSG (Join to see) No, that would turn our senior level military leadership into a populatory contest. Although those selected may not always be the best choice, for the most part, the military gets it right.

No!!!
That being said, there needs to be a better system of officer rating/selection...
Or maybe the OPTEMPO/PERSTEMPO of the last 15 years has diluted the quality and a downsizing will solve the problem.
