I think it gives spouses and kids a better idea of what the service member does and they can have a deeper appreciation for it . Absolutely!

Exactly! Plus it puts the family members at ease knowing that the servicemembers that your spouse brother sister hang around with and are part of are good people

It's a nice occasion, however I only saw it happen once in 3 years in the Fleet and it was at our geographically separated Battalion HQ so it didn't apply to us. The one time we supported one for 1st Tank Bn in 29 Palms, one wife ended up putting her hand in the breach of the tank's man gun and had one of her fingers de-gloved, so that put a damper on the event.
