The best leaders I have encountered were willing to give of themselves, just as you noted, SGM (Join to see). They take the time to pass along lessons learned, to mentor, to coach, etc.
There's no doubt in my mind that your statement is true: effective leaders are defined by how many leaders they create, mentor, coach, assist, etc.
