Should combat patches be banned to wear during field training exercises?

Just read an article on the Army Times reporting that a BCT has prohibited the wear of combat patches during field exercises.
The article mentions that the purpose is to promote a "unified army culture."
The BCT spokesman even goes as far to say that ..."when training in the field, we're building a team and do not need to focus, or be distracted, by our own or others' individual accomplishments."
Am I the only one that thinks this is completely wrong?
Here is the link to the article...
