Shiite Militia creates rift in the Iraqi Defense Force. Why is it so hard for them to come together to end a mutual enemy?

The Shiite militia created a rift w/ the Sunni militia by naming the counter-offensive against Ramadi "Labaik Ya Hussein", which translates to "we are at your service, Hussein." This is a reference to the grandson of Mohammed, the lineage that the Shias follow.

The reason they can't pull together is because they value their versions of their religion over a country arbitrarily drawn on a map by people that share neither. Well, there's that and then it's also the fact that they live in the 1200's.
