I recently noticed a Soldier wearing a concealed weapon in uniform off post.

I did a quick search and have not found anything on this..

Don't get me wrong I am all for a well trained armed population, and with the way crime is getting out of control in the area I live, I can't fault the soldier for wanted to protect himself (if thats the reason he is doing so)

I have never seen any uniform restrictions on concealed carry while in uniform. As long as they have a permit for concealed carry, they should be legal off base. Unfortunately the military does not recognize the permits on base, so on installation, they will have to meet all regulations for transportation of personal weapons on base.

Thank you Sir,

I know that the local AFB has rather strict regulations on weapons, but those stem from an On Post shooting almost 20 years ago

Is he/she have a permit for concealed carry?  If they have a permit it is legal.

Then that may come down to a policy letter from the Commander (Unit/Post etc.).  Again, it is legal from the state point of view (concelaed carry with permit).

SFC Trodahl,

I am aware of the local state laws.

It came as a shock because the soldier was not doing a very good job of concealing it while at a local store.

Thank you for you input.

I havent been able to find anything Concrete, but as a CCW holder who carries basically any time I leave the house to go anywhere other than on post. I would Advise against carrying in uniform. At least untill you can get clarification from your COC or JAG office.

Military bases are considered Federal properties..thus subject to Federal laws and regulations. With the current attempts to get Nationwide concealed carry legal this issue will need to be settled
