I remember all of us on my block would open the fire hydrant and play in the water, buy ice cream from the truck, and block off the street and have a party.
I also remember the times I fell off of my bike and had to get up dust myself off, and keep on going. (because there was no crying) You would have to come in the house if you cried for falling.
I remember playing ding dong ditch and prank calling.
I remember hot coca in Chicago on those cold days we would use our toboggan sliding down the hills in the snow.
I remember the love from the neighbors during Halloween (thanks Mrs. Jackson for all the candy)
I remember the half an hour limit to the television. My father would say "go play your guitar and read your books."
Those were the good ole days!

I was able to walk to elementary school (in town); now we if we didn't live in post, I wouldn't even consider letting my kids walk to school (and might get arrested for it if I did).

Homemade ice cream during the summer. And as LTC Ford said, being able to play freely outdoors.

For me the good ole' days were back when my whole body functioned correctly..... I am not a combat vet, so do not give me the respect our combat vets have earned!!!!!
Now on a lighter side, The good ole' days were back when I was on the buoy tender, Sundew WLB-404. The ship was in some port almost every night while working a fall or spring buoy run on Lake Superior. The crew was pretty tight and while on liberty we all had each other's back. The MKC I worked for in main prop even ordered us to call him by his first name when we were in a bar/tavern! It was weird being a MK2 and calling my chief by his first name! Our crew worked hard, but I think we played even harder!

In the spring, fall and early autumn we would take unwanted sports cards and attach them to bike so they made what we thought would be a motorcycle sound as the cards flapped against the spokes. Probably sounded more like a moped :-)

He he. Girls put beads on the spokes so it looked like a kaleidoscope when the wheels spun

SFC (Join to see), I was going to vote you up; but, I hit my daily allotment of 75 up-votes for the day. That is part of RallyPoint I try to use up every day.

As a baseball card collector I cry every time I hear someone say that. :(Â
Good old days of listening to games, or walking to the ballpark near the house just to watch and cheer whoever was playing, those were good old days for me.Â

SSG Ricardo Marcial, the cards in spokes, parents cleaning out after sons left, etc., help keep baseball cards from the 1950's and 1960's prices up. Low production also helps :-) I collect 1960's Topps Baseball and am interested in the early 1960's cards. BTW there is a RallyPoint trading card group where we have had a few discussions about Baseball cards.

Going to the 5 and Dime before an afternoon movie and buying a lot of penny candy to eat while watching the cartoons which preceded the main feature.
Once before I was a teenager I fell asleep in the movie theater and woke up to the "Loves of Casanova" or something with a similar title.
Nobody kicked me out because I was probably sleeping peacefully and I was able to walk the half mile back through the Philadelphia suburbs unmolested.

SFC (Join to see) The last time I went to a drive-in was a few years ago in Lancaster County off US Route 30. The prices were higher but the same atmosphere with a little better sound quality. Unfortunately the closest Drive-in was miles away through a few bad neighborhoods.

MAJ (Join to see), I have a vague memory of Now and Laters. What
I remember looking into the glass covered display case at all of the varieties of candy which only cost a penny a piece or for a few pieces. My favorites were red licorice, mild duds, red hot dollars, smarties, Rolos. I did not like Mike and Ikes which my younger sisters seemed to enjoy.

[Good ole days] I remember on hot summer evenings after playing stick-ball, that we would jog behind the DDT spraying truck because it was a little bit cooler and their were less bugs.
[Bad later days] With all of the false warnings put out about DDT which resulted in so many unnecessary malaria deaths and other mosquito born deaths.

Rotary phones and snail mail. Family vacations. Military wise, reporting to the pay officer to recieve my paycheck and then going next door to the PX to cash it.

Back in the day when I was earning my first of two DD-214's, I seem to recall being paid in cash. Had to count it in front of the payroll officer.
