I remember all of us on my block would open the fire hydrant and play in the water, buy ice cream from the truck, and block off the street and have a party.
I also remember the times I fell off of my bike and had to get up dust myself off, and keep on going. (because there was no crying) You would have to come in the house if you cried for falling.
I remember playing ding dong ditch and prank calling.
I remember hot coca in Chicago on those cold days we would use our toboggan sliding down the hills in the snow.
I remember the love from the neighbors during Halloween (thanks Mrs. Jackson for all the candy)
I remember the half an hour limit to the television. My father would say "go play your guitar and read your books."
Those were the good ole days!

Children be able to play freely outdoors knowing that neighbors would look out for neighbors and protect each others children.

My neighbor who was my favorite was Mrs. Jackson. She lived at the end of the block. My neighborhood buddies would go to her house and she ALWAYS had ice cream.
I never had to worry about any harm coming to us for going in each other's homes.

And when you messed up as a kid, your Mom knew about it before you got home. The Mom hotline was fast.

We would play war games, swimming at the lake, football, target shooting (this is what happens if you have 4 brothers)....all day and the only time our Mom looked for us was when it was dinner time (getting dark).

You posted a great and harmless question SFC (Join to see). With all of the other tensions being bandied about in the world and on RallyPoint it is nice to answer nostalgic questions which bring back good memories. I certainly hope many other people will respond.

Me too Sir, I'm really interested.
Tell us another one. I know you have more. That's why they are called the good ole days.

SFC (Join to see) - I did. I would press my own BDUs and polish my jungles for Motor Pool Mondays. I also had my Jump Boot ready to go at a moments notice. I spent a lot of time on my boots. I would polish them until I could see myself in them. The worst was getting new boots. But now a days we just don't have the ability to look as professional as we did then. I wish we could.

anything before cellphones. Unless it was a legitimate emergency it could wait till the next day.

"Good Ole Days" is whatever you grew up with, or whatever memories your parents or grandparents gave you about them growing up. Today will be the "Good Ole Days" for people 50 years from now.
I only point this out because I consider the present to always be the good days... we have a lot to be grateful for.

SFC (Join to see) - I like to focus on the present and the future (while studying the past), but there are certainly things I remember from back in the day... I used to have the phone numbers of all my closest friends memorized, got paper maps before going on any trip, and looked forward to watching our favorite TV shows with family at the same time of the week. One thing that has never changed, is the importance of having the right people to share all of life's moments with.
