So now that the Army has made it so you can grow a beard for religious
reasons, does that mean anyone that claims Jedi as their religion can
grow a beard? How many other religions allowed within the military will be allowing Service members to begin wearing facial hair?
Currently, Excluding limited exemptions for religious accommodation, the United States Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps
have policies that prohibit beards on the basis of hygiene, the
necessity of a good seal for chemical weapon protective masks, and the
official position that uniform personal appearance and grooming
contribute to discipline and a sense of camaraderie (cited from a DC District Court Civil Action).

That's ridiculous. Not all Jedis wear beards. Did you see Mace Windu with a beard? Yoda? Nope. It's not a function of being a Jedi....

and I guess since my brother named his son Luke, with a middle name of Sky (no that's not a joke, my brother's an idiot).....I can claim Jedi heritage....so I know.

CW3 (Join to see) That is too friggin' funny. I told that story to my wife, who just looked at me with that you are an idiot blank stare (which is not uncommon).

As a surgical tech working on a Labor and Delivery unit, I have seen far too many unfortunate baby name choices, including one Anakin, so that doesn't surprise me AT ALL...

My personal belief is that you joined the military knowing that you would have to adhere to certain standards. My religious belief is Rastafari, but you do not see me crying about not having my dreadlocks, or beard cause I CHOSE to serve. (I do have a shaving profile, but for medical reasons)

If you knew how to shave correctly, you wouldnt have a shaving profile. We have a Provider that teaches how to shave properly without getting bumps.

Could everyone here please attempt to seat your Protective Mask while "sporting a beard". After that, get back to me and tell me why this is even a legitimate discussion.
Our political morons/masters made yet another PC mistake by allowing beards.

The Idea that Beards prevent a seal in a Gas Mask is a myth unless they are very long beards which in that case a small line around the jawline can be shaven for the mask to sit in and seal. It is what the soldiers of Sikh ethnicity in the British Army do as to have a long beard is part of their religion. Also beards can be cut short and they do not interfere with anything. The actual reason they got rid of the beard was in world war 1 and it was due to gas masks being terrible at sealing back in those days but also because of the absolute mundane misery that was trench warfare, shaving gave the soldiers something to do to take their minds off of war. And unfortunately for masculinity and common sense, that trend stayed in as a standing order that all men will be clean shaven even today.

I have a religious accommodation and I have a full beard and they put me thru nbc three times in bct to make sure my gas mask sealed!!
I don’t use any gel or products and my mask seals perfect, we had problems with other guys that were clean shaven and their masks weren’t sealing properly but as far as I am concerned I been in since 2013 and my gas mask has sealed perfect ever time I have taken it out of the bag to put it on my face !
