I am looking for some ideas to see if this would be something RP members would like to become a part of. Naturally, companies spend millions of dollars in advertisement, recruitment, and sign on bonuses, along with the promises of treating veterans will and going out of their way to specifically hire veterans because of their skill sets.
But what happens when that hits the fan? What do we hear about companies that go out of their way to hire veterans but then stab them in the back?
I propose that RallyPoint create an Employer Wall of Shame-a listing or posting of companies that deliberately paint a false picture and then screw veterans over. I have a picture perfect case for this instance and would be more than happy to share my story. I am hoping that this can encourage others to do the same. Only stipulations-you have a valid cause for not liking the company. In my example, I was forced to move somewhere, paid rent in two different places, and then was fired for having to return to Arizona for drill. They knew about it well in advance, and did it anyways.

I am afraid that ONE bad experience may hurt a great employer. Let's be honest here. Shit happens and people get fired. Do we turn that into a "it's cause I was a Veteran"? Or do we really trust the one side of the story. Will the employer have a chance to share their side? I don't want it to be a business bashing forum. So far I have experienced nothing but professionalism on this forum, so I'd hope it stays that way!

Yes, I would agree that a "one off" doesn't merit your company name and logo on such a wall (like you said, shit happens), but a pattern of conduct would most certainly merit a place of "honor" on the wall of shame!

We are here to help service members during their transition as one of the many roles of Rallypoint. Having a wall of shame for bad employers could be a great warning for newly separated SMs looking for work.
Would you recommend the opposite? Possibly posting possible employers and a rating system with reviews written by service members? So you can Amazon product search possible jobs in your area.

Zac, I agree with you. If you are going to spot light those companies that do not hit that mark you need to give credit to those that do

I'd support a list of companies that highlight the good companies... Sometimes bad stories about companies are isolated to a certain manager or business group within that company.

I think that it could be a problem as it's very subjective. What if you inadvertently harm a company's reputation based on a bad report from a disgruntled employee? How would you vet that?

PO3 Walters- hence why a system that could somehow substantiate these claims is a feature we would have to work. Yes, one or two disgruntled employees may not have the desired effect for either party, but if there is a multitude of veterans or people all singing the same sheet of music, then the message is perfectly clear.
I know I am not the only one and I am damn sure not the last that has a legitmate gripe against a company that I worked for. I am sure there are many others out there as well.

OK fair enough, I ended up leaving the Navy Reserve because I couldn't get my employer to work with me on my 2 week annual obligation. So I know how crappy we veterans can be treated. Especially with regard to reserve and national guard duties. I just think that RP would find a large liability in implementing it.

I already sent a message to RP Head Shed to see what they had to say. As mentioned previously we would have to tread carefully, but there is a massive disclaimer already on the website that states the opinions and views of its members do not necessarily coincide or represent that of RallyPoint, and vice verse. I would think that a professional narrative of what occurred, screened, and viewed by either currently or previously retired JAG officers is a clean cut way to go. Again, this is just a census.

Sam, hit it on the head. Businesses are black listed on posts after a commanding officer investigates and is given all the facts. You would have to have a vetting system, otherwise it is one sided and could spell legal trouble for Rallypoint. Maybe, better is a list of businesses ranked by the member's experiences. Ones at the bottom of the list would obviously be a red flag.
