So I had the opportunity to do the "Rad Run Race" last weekend. It's essentially an obstacle course using blow-up obstacles. It's very family friendly, and fairly inexpensive. A good time. Worth checking out if you have one locally.
The cool thing is rather than "one and done" you can go through as many times as you like.
The wife & I (also a Marine) jokingly called it the USAF answer to a Mud Run.

When you mentioned "blow-up obstacles" it made me click the link. I EXPECTED TO SEE STUFF EXPLODING! Then, I read your post again and.....yep shook my head at the USAF remark....

What you can do is put together a Family Day Plan in .ppt, and brief it just like I did, but with explosions and what not, and then rent bouncy castles, and make a 5k!

The AFB was a joke. It's actually a civilian race, completely off-base. it's "roughly" a 5k, but I think it was only about a mile long really, took 30-45 mins to run, including all the obstacles (none of which are hard).
The one I did was in Maryland, but I don't know if they have other locations. The locations link seems broke at the moment.
