To answer the question of how potential members are screened:
1) Every member has full control over their privacy settings, and who sees what. Please visit this link here on a desktop or laptop: https://www.rallypoint.com/settings
2) By default, current verified service members names and full profiles are NOT visible to unverified members. Above is an image of what your own profile looks like to unverified members.
3) Verification is done either through a government database, or if through documentation, we do it in-house and with 4-Star Member Admins. No one person has access to all the information.
4) We have multiple security protocols in place that observes member behavior through a live audit, and suspicious or unusual behavior triggers an automatic account lock out. Unfortunately this can catch regular members sometimes who did nothing wrong, but we err on the side of caution. All locked out accounts are personally reviewed by RallyPoint staff. To date, 100% of the lock outs have been legitimate RallyPoint members - fortunately this doesn't happen often.
5) We have additional layers of security, but revealing them would of course weaken the system. We take security very seriously.
Please remember that unlike your profile information which you have full control over, keep in mind that anything posted in a discussion is basically public by the nature of so many people seeing it, so never post anything you wouldn't want the public to be able to see. This is a good rule of thumb for anything on the internet.

Great break down LTC Yinon Weiss! I know this has been previously discussed, but in light of the current threat, I personally want to thank you for providing the insight.

LTC Yinon Weiss, Sir, when the engineering team has the time: Just another plug for a tool to allow individual members to "view (own) profile as" "verified veteran" "unverified SM" "civilian supporter" etc. similar to function on LI.
This might reduce the frequency of the same question being raised and make everyone feel more knowledgeable about their own exposure control.

Here is a great thread that has a lot of input on this question. The CEO's comments are at the top response. As far as screening potential members goes, CW5 (Join to see) and Uncle Mark are working back there helping out and just like Laurie, no one gets verified without 100% proof of their miliary service. Unverified members see nothing of your profile, except what MAJ Weiss illustrated in his response. Verified members had their hurdles to make as well. There are screening criteria for active duty, veterans/retirees, and the "older of school" with records prior to 1985. In addition to getting past those hurdles, the help desk, with HUGE help from the member admins, put out the fires that get lit by some of the more "passionate" members and member complaints are logged, filed, and cases built for possible suspension and even termination (from the site....lol). Anyone on this site can lodge a complaint to the help desk or report any strage behavior and it will be answered. Everyone has the opportunity to keep RallyPoint professional and ensure the safety and security of it's members.

Again thank you all for protecting us. This threat highlights the vulnerabilities of what we all chose to post on social media.
