I called this one in a previous discussion. Looks like Manning will be transferred out of Leavenworth to a civilian prison where 'he' can live as a 'she' and receive hormone therapy. I'm sure he/she appreciates your tax dollars!
Meanwhile Hagel still wants to study the possibility of transgendered individuals serving.
Thoughts???

SFC Dominguez, wish I could tell you that. Exactly why I included the link; so everyone can read for themselves and draw their own conclusions.

I don't really care if someone is transgendered as long as they can do the job. That said...this is waste and abuse for the tax payers. We have Vets with deeper issues that are unable to get the help they need. Spend my tax dollars on them...spend my tax dollars on the national deficit (not that it would make a dent). If a Manning wants this manning needs to pay for it like every other transgendered person that wants to do it.

Does tri-care cover it now for dependents? I've heard stories of Tri car covering breast augmentations as there is allegedly some 1 time make yourself feel good surgery. I don't know that it's true I don't know that it's not. But if tri-care doesn't cover it then the soldier needs to suck it up. But your right $$$$ to pay for that

I've not heard either way if TriCare would pay for dependents but something tells me if they had a confirmed diagnosis of gender identity disorder there would be a case to be made for it (for good or bad..just the way I see it).

Agreed, how is this a burden for the American people to bear? That dirt bag is a traitor and should be stuffed in a small dark room on bread and water for the rest of his miserable life.

He's been charged with crimes and sent to prison, enough said. Why his legal team is even considering hormone treatments, prison transfers or anything else is beyond comprehension. Do your time, get out, and pay your own bill! Unless you are going to die without the hormones this shouldn't even be a consideration.

I think this is an abuse of tax dollars. This person is in prison. Why should he/she get any special privileges? The government should be ashamed and some politician needs to call the pentagon out on this.
As for transgender serving, I could care less but I think you shouldn't be able to come into the army until your transformation is complete. That way there is no confusion on the gender and the military will not be stuck footing hormone and surgery bills.

From my limited understanding, even after reassignment surgery, the hormone therapy would be required for a lifetime, so under your scenario, the taxpayer would still be on the hook for hormone therapy. Does this change your opinion?

Exactly MSG Huffman. Soldiers go without money needed every time a pregnant soldier needs a light duty assignment back in the states, complete set of pregnant uniforms, special treatment, medical and the transgender is wanting a piece of the easy cake.
