My son has the scores to become an officer and he already has an Associates Degree. Why wasn't he told he can/should go to OCS?

1. Was his scores high enough to go OCS. 2. You must be enlisted before you can aooly to go to OCS, and selected.

SGM Bill Frazer - I believe you are mistaken about a requirement to be enlisted first. Clearly, from the official Army Web site referenced above, the Army recruits civilians with bachelor's degrees to go directly to OCS.

Ma'am not to bust your bubble, but for the past 50 yrs, there was only 2 ways to join- Enlist and then go thru OCS or Commission. You are TOLD upon arrival at OCS, that failure to finish will send you out on the needs of the service , normally as an e%. I'm sorry but the "shake and Bake" NCO school ended just prior to my start in active duty in 73.

You can go to OCS in the Army National Guard with 90 credit hours, all others require a 4 years degree as a minimum. Since even in the Guard, entry is competitive, not having a 4 year degree is a real detriment. The active Army and the other services quit the 90 hours a long time ago.

LCpl Sandy Moran - Or just wait until he finishes a four year degree. The Army doesn't care much about what it is for as long as the school is accredited. I'm a Grass to Brass Officer myself, some enlisted time makes a better officer IMO.

A person who has a high score and a degree should not have to be told anything. In today's age the knowledge is online. Maybe this is a motivation issue.

Not at all.he was told he needed a 4r. degree and didn't bother to ask about OCS at that point. After Boot camp he was told about green to gold.

There can be a number of reasons, primarily I would ask did your son show intrest in becoming an officer at the interview. Recruiters help and push what the military needs, its ultimately your responsibility to be informed and push where you go and what you do.

Recruiter said he can have any on a long list of mos. But finding out he didn't have the bachelors . and could not become an office. Maybe it was never bought up. Glad I asked, instead of wondering the what if's
