When I was signing my paperwork at MEPS, the detailer told me that I was going to be classified as a reservist. The next time I go back to ship out, I would resign and it would change to active duty. Is it normal for this to happen?? Hope I'm not screwed!!

This is what it is supposed to be. You're enrolled in the Delayed Entry Program with a term of 8 years total. Your DD4/3 will have a term of active duty service that you sign when you ship out. When your active duty contract ends you will he placed into the IRR for the rest of the 8 years

You’re learning an important lesson that many new recruits miss: if you don’t understand, ask. The process is simple and essential. Ask (with appropriate military courtesy), listen to the answer, learn. Repeat as necessary.

Best of luck!
