Use this forum to post the worst and funniest failures you've seen in the Military... anything from the General showing up with his name tape upside down, to the LT getting your convoy lost, to the LCpl calling Master Guns "Master Sergeant."

Too many to tell, but let's start with this one.

I had an E5 report first day onboard in his Trops (summer dress uniform). I knew he was to report that day, but he fell into formation for Colors with the rest of the crew so I didn't notice him immediately. Once "Carry on" was sounded, the boss had everybody gather around for a quick brief on the Plan of the Day. Once she was finished, she asked if I had anything for the good order and discipline of the unit so I called this guy out to introduce himself. His ribbons were on the right side of his shirt along with his Boat Force Insignia, his name tag was on the left side of the shirt, and his belt was put on backwards.

Once the meeting broke, I had him accompany me to my office where I asked the question "Who dressed you this morning?"

First day on the job at a new unit with a new boss showed up looking like crap on a cracker!

Wow... so who DID dress him that morning?  It seems like a completely backwards Uniform would be really difficult to manage, but perhaps that's just because I rarely remove my ribbons from my Uniform...

Perhaps he was just dyslexic, or had a problem understanding how a mirror works...

Great story, Senior Chief!

He took credit for dressing himself. Not sure I would have done that. Maybe I would have blamed it on the wife (as long as she wasn't there to hear me do that...I'm crazy, not stupid!), the kids, the dog, the next door neighbor's kids....almost anybody else in the world, but saying after almost six years in service that I couldn't properly dress myself isn't the way I would like to start my first day at a new unit.

I'm the same way about my dress uniforms. I keep a set of Trops(summer) and SBDs (winter) ready. They're in the plastic bags from the dry cleaners dressed (ribbons, insignia & badges) and ready to go every day. Never can tell when you'll get that last minute call to do something where you need to look official.

One more and I will wait for someone else.  I was driving in to work one morning while one of my ships was in the yards at Metro Machine, across the Elizabeth River from Downtown Norfolk.  As I crossed the Berkley Bridge, I noticed a Sailor in Dungarees holding a CO2 Fire Extinguisher just stand there and looking for someone or something. Upon Arrival at the Shipyard I parked and proceeded to he ship and into the Chief's Mess and asked the Duty Chief what SN BBBB was doing Up on the Berkley Bridge with a Fire Extinguisher.  The duty Chief was astounded and said he had been looking for BBBB.  The last time he saw BBBB, he had assigned BBBB to Fire Watch Duties and told BBBB to report to the welder up on the Bridge (of the ship).  [and YES, this SN had been fully indoctrinated  and should have known what a Fire Watch was supposed to do, he should have known where the ships Bridge was - not the Berkley Bridge.]

During my TDY to Rhein Mein,  I finished my work for the day and went down to sleep and woke up and it was dark.   I thought it was the next morning and dressed and went down the hall.  The Canteen was still open and I am puzzled.   It was only 730PM.    So I ate a cheeseburger and watched AFN TV and went back to bed.   I am sure if I concentrated,  I could give you plenty of silly fails. lol
