So a few months back I finished my MEB process and I am now out. It was a pretty long and annoying process and everyone I talked to while going through it had never been through it and was only talking about what they have heard. It was always"my friend this..." Or "my friend that.." I just received my first disability compensation a little while back and it was a sigh of relief! I would like to extend any one a hand who feels like they are drowning in the process, or maybe you just got a permanent profile and are wondering what the process is all about. I will tell it too you straight and may be able to give you a few hints on how to speed it up. My process took 6 months from the issuing of my permanent profile to being on terminal leave. If you want to talk in private shoot me a message and I'll send you my email. Don't forget to save all your paperwork and ask a ton of questions!! Hope to hear from some people!

Do you have any suggestions on talking with the board in order to get them to rate a previously unrated disability?

My suggestion would be to make sure you have lots of documentation. Request your medical records so you have copies. Have you already gone through the whole process and got your rating? If not than when the give you the initial proposal you can request they add something and they will take another look at your records. There will be two chances to do this befor the end of the process. Once you are out then you will work it out with your local VA medical center. In all honesty I have known several people who went through the process and if they weren't happy with the first set of results and they had a good reason and proof that it affects their daily life, they won't deny you. Keep in mind it can add significant time to your process and some people have found it quicker to get their rating and than haggle with the VA doctors. They are much more personal and understanding. Just my two cents.
