Obama administration warns US court: High cost of appealing terror verdict could topple PA
NEW YORK - The Obama administration urged a US judge to "carefully consider" the Palestinian Authority's financial condition in determining the size of any bond it must post to appeal a jury's finding that it supported terrorist attacks in Israel.
The US Department of Justice filed a notice of interest in the lawsuit in Manhattan federal court late on Monday, after 10 American families in February won a $655 million verdict against the Palestine Liberation Organization and Palestinian Authority.
The Justice Department said the government "strongly supports" allowing terrorism victims to vindicate their interests in court.
Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken nonetheless asked US District Judge George Daniels to "carefully consider" how requiring a multimillion-dollar bond could affect the Palestinian Authority's viability, given its delicate finances.

EDITORIAL COMMENT:- If the PA is a "moderate" organization (and in the Middle East it is probably considered almost wimpy) is toppled by an American court's judicial fiat what will replace it? [PS - Since both the PA and the PLO are deemed, but the US government, to be "terrorist organizations", (A) how did they manage to represent themselves in the court case and (B) is it "due process" to find someone guilty without allowing them to even attend the trial?

I fear by doing this would be stirring up the hornets nest even more. This would definitely get the radical muslims more angry and more attacks aginast us here at home and abroad.

SCPO David Lockwood - Senior Chief; Unfortunately those (on both "the left" and "the right") who want to manipulate society into the form that they "just know" is the one that society "should have" - even if that requires forcing people to do what they "should do" - apparently are unaware that doing the same thing over and over while expecting to get different results is (let's be polite) incredibly and stupidly arrogant.

TSgt David L. - Sergeant; I think that you are being overly pessimistic. I might go so far as to agree that "'The world' has lost both fear of and respect for the GOVERNMENT of the United States of America." - but I wouldn't take it any further than that.
However, you comment does raise the interesting question of whether 'the world' lost its RESPECT FOR the government of the United States of America first or whether 'the world' lost its FEAR OF the government of the United States of America first.
