Is it legal to separate someone through a med board and then not provide them with a DD214?

my buddy is currently past his speration date from his medboard and still doesnt have a dd214 and they are taking his time getting it to him. he has no income from the army and cant get a job beacuse of not having a dd214. and IG and army legal says he cant use their services since he is past his seperation date. the unit is also trying to make him pay for $6,000 for lost gear even though it was stolen and the unit supply says they dont have the old flipl and opened a new one so the 1SG and battery commander doesnt have to pay for it. its been over a year and half since they had the old flipl. is there anything that he can do? thank you for your time.

Something sounds awfully strange about this situation. When you medboard process out of the military, and I know this for a fact as I went through the process, the last stop that you make before you are officially out of the military is a stop at the DEERS office to sign your DD214 and leave. This is my question, was your buddy active duty? If not, he is not going to get a DD214. If he was active duty and completed his separation then there is absolutely no reason why he shouldn't have gotten a DD214. I'm thinking that someone is, for lack of a better phrase, "full of shit".

SPC (Join to see) - separation date aside, there is no "technically" out, bud. You either have a DD214 in hand and you are out or you don't. And obviously he doesn't only have finance left because he needs CIF with said FLIPL and DEERS and who knows what else.

SGT Joseph Gunderson - cif cleared him beacuse the unit was taking too long to finish the flipl beacuse they went to the field and said they would finish it when they got out of it. i know he is going to get his dd214 its just taking way to long and the whole thing with them billing him for 6k worth of gear

Okay, if he didn't want to wait for the FLIPL then he is going to pay for the gear. CIF would also not just go and sign off unless they had word that there would be no FLIPL. I will say it again, it sure sounds like your buddy has done fucked up quite a bit during the process and now is just upset that he is paying for it on the back end.

If there's no paperwork about his stolen equipment he might be screwed. Paperwork is always key on equipment. He needs to look through every single thing he has and see if he has copies of that FILPL.
Now the DD214 is a separate issue.

SFC (Join to see) - I haven't been in a traditional Army unit in 3 1/2 years so I don't know. I'm in a joint unit on an AF base. He said there was a FLIPL so go find the paperwork from it.

I know the vet groups are all good, however, for real complex stuff like !y wife and I had for me, the NOVA attorneysmare alp outstanding..?esp prior svc ones...law school vet law clinics are also good, as are county vet svc reps, however, trustmke, have him call NOVA irmcheck their search engine for attorneys near him, have him pay the consult retainer of the too take him then do exactly what they say, they only take what the VA lets them take under the law, trust me, they're well worth it, there's a very real reason God invented attorneys, been there, done that (BTDT), I'm here if you want to chat, anytime OK?
