Is Focusing on ISIS causing us to look in the wrong direction?

This is a matter of prioritization of effort.
ISIS is an Enemy with a big "E".
Hamas is an enemy with a little "e" that happens to be actively fighting a common Enemy, ISIS.
Ergo, public policy is to tamp down anti-Hamas rhetoric as we engage in a conflict where our interests coincide.
Having said that, Hamas is full of bad guys and are very focused on the destruction of Israel. They are in this because they fear losing their base of operations in the Bekaa Valley, and rightly so. Without Assad as a benefactor, Hamas is in big trouble,

Great assessment of the situation. Our resources are extremely limited, especially with today's budget issues. ISIL is the biggest problem right now. However, the current administration is hesitant to actually commit to a level that will impact ISIL. They are even more hesitant to tackle Hamas.

There's a very fuzzy borderline between terrorist organizations Taliban by day and Da'esh by night. Da'esh is a temporary fixation because of their barbarity, but there's little difference between Da'esh and Hamas, Hezbollah, and any other terrorist group. A terrorist is a terrorist is a terrorist, no matter how you paint them!
